In this training, you will learn to understand the role of this subsurface food web in agriculture and harness its power by working with a wide range of microbial communities.
The Soil Food Web approach to regenerating soil was developed by world-renowned ecologist, microbiologist Elaine Ingham (PhD). The method is increasingly being practiced around the world.

Introduction to The Soil Food Web
On the first day of the course, we will go deep into what is soil and its characteristics and functions. Understanding the living microscopic world that lives in the soil but is invisible to the naked eye. What is the soil food web and what are its functions? Nutrient cycling. Understanding soil and its components. Weeds: ecological succession above and below ground Meet soil micro-organisms! What conditions need to be met for the soil food web to thrive?
Bioactive compost as a basic tool for working with The Soil Food Web
The main tools for managing The Soil Food Web: bioactive compost and its liquids. What is bioactive compost and why is it a powerful tool in soil regeneration. Theory and practical information on the different ways of composting. Bioactive compost extracts and teas: how to make and use them. Learn about the AhlmanEdu composting method and assess the quality of compost by sensory and microscopic methods. During the day, you will prepare compost in practice – be prepared with the appropriate outdoor clothing.
Soil Food Web under the microscope
Basics of shadowing microscopy. How and why to evaluate soil samples from a soil food web perspective. What does soil/compost look like under the microscope? Identify different beneficial and harmful micro-organisms in the soil food web. You will be able to use a microscope to assess the quality of compost.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Registration is binding. Cancellation is free of charge up to 14 days before the course starts. For cancellations made 5–14 days before the course starts, 50% of the course fee will be charged. For cancellations made later, the full course fee will be charged, as well as in cases where the participant discontinues the course. In the event of force majeure before the course begins (e.g. personal illness, in which case a medical certificate must be provided), an office fee of €50 will be charged. Ahlmanin koulun Säätiö sr reserves the right to make changes and to cancel the training.
